Tunnel Vision

Proverbs 4:25-27 (NIV)

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Vision keeps one’s eyes on the future, thoughts optimistic, and feet upon the right path. While taking care of business in the present we should always keep our eyes focused on the future. The future will be a direct result of the decisions that we choose to make today.  In our generation so many people have developed a short-term mindset, living off of temporary pleasures and highs that fade away in the blink of an eye. Immature people have the tendency to get so caught up in the moment and instant gratification that they forget to plan for the future. Proverbs 4:25 says “Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you”. In order to move forward in life we must keep our eyes on our destination!

Every action that we take in life will always be followed by a positive or negative outcome. There is a consequence to every negative decision that we make in life. Proverbs 4:26 says “Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways”. In other words do not act impulsively; think carefully before you engage in any activity. Sometimes we as flawed human beings make rushed decisions due to our ignorance, immaturity, and lack of patience. We have to realize that one bad decision can destroy our entire future.

We only get one life to live here on earth and some mistakes that we make can have permanent repercussions. Think about the people in prison who made one bad decision to commit a crime and ended up receiving a life sentence or the death penalty. One decision took away their freedom and destroyed their lives. God is forgiving, graceful, and merciful but this world is not! That’s why we must stay conscious and aware the actions we choose to take. My brothers and sisters take your time when making decisions in life. Allow Holy Spirit to lead and guide you into the future. God has already planned your future out for you, trust in Him. Keep your mind clear so that you can make sound judgments! God wants us to be steadfast in all of our ways. Stand firm in your purpose and grounded in the faith.

In Proverbs 4:27, it says “Do not turn to the right or to the left; keep your foot from evil”. God wants us to stay focused on Him and not get sidetracked or go astray. In this world there will be a lot of distractions, but we shouldn’t let the things around us cause us to lose focus. Placing our eyes on distractions is a waste of time and will only cause us to lose our balance. Distractions not only come from the left or the right, but they can also come from behind us. As we make progression there might be some things from the past that come trying to hold and pull us back. Giving too much attention to our past or what’s behind us can cause us to fall back into some old traps. Focusing our eyes on the past can cause us to trip or stumble on an obstacle that’s right in front of us! Our whole goal is to remain steady on the path that God has laid out for us. Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. We can keep our feet from evil by living out God’s word and the obeying voice of the Holy Spirit within us.

It’s time for us to get our eyes and minds focused on the future. I believe that there are five vital questions that can help us prepare for the future and they are: “What is my purpose in life”, “What path do I want to choose in life?”, “What are my life goals?”,  “What has God put in my heart to establish here on earth before I pass away?”, and “Where do I want my destination to be after I die?”. Take some time to reflect, meditate, and answer those questions. Proverbs 3:6 says “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths”. God’s will should be at the center of our lives. Thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for dying on the cross for us so that we could have future. While you’re alive it’s never too late to accept Jesus Christ in your heart, confess your sins, and repent from your past ways. Make the right decisions today in order to have a brighter future tomorrow. Be aware of your location but remained focused on your destination. Continue to have tunnel vision . God bless!
